Circaflex
Well i downloaded the cds and i want to install this linux distro onto my pc. I am currently on Windows XP Pro which is on haddrive C:\, i want to install Mandrake on Haddrive E:\ so i can dual boot, i really dont want to choose which os because i usually use xp, linux is just to see if i like it or not, and i was wondering is there a way i can always boot to xp, but when i want to boot to linux put in a floppy disk to boot it up and have it start up linux automaticcally, no like commands to make it go, just put in the disk and it goes? And then are there any special things i need to do during installation of mandrake? Sys SPecs: P3 1 ghz 512 mb ram sound blaster audigy mp3 + geforce 2 ti 64 mb ddr

Nope, just install it on e:/, the installer will format e:/ and put it Linux's partition there.. Be sure, it's above 3-4gigs.
MulletRobZ
If you want to do a minimal install, only 2 GB would be necessary. 800 MB for the program files and 1.2 GB for the rest of the files! But if you want to test everything, get a minimum of 5 GB!
dmd3x
Learn some basic commands so you are not helpless at the command line.
dmd3x
Also, since you are used to the Windows environment, you may be more comfortable using KDE instead of Gnome for a window manager to get started.
dgriner844
If you just want to see if you like Linux; you might want to try Knoppix. It can run off of the actual CD and you dont have to install it to your hard drive. So there is no worrying about if you like it or not because you can just reboot and your back to windows. http://www.knoppix.org/
