Do you guys recall before the version of Microsoft Windows Defender they had Microsoft Windows Anti-Spyware. Within Anti-spyware they had a tool to erase tracks on your PC. It erased alot of useful things such as Internet cookies, cache , temp files, windows temp files, trash etc. It was great because it was free. When they came out with Defender they stripped it for some reason.

Can anyone recommend a replacement for that? I know there are programs like Tracks Eraser Pro : http://www.acesoft.net/ by Acesoft, or
Mil Shield: http://www.milincorp...milshield2.html by Mil Incorporated Home. But I have no clue which one is actually good. Are there any that stand out ahead of the others? The best would be a good quality freeware one , that does as good a job as the payed ones. I have no problem buying one though, but I just want to make sure I'm buying the best. And if you do a search on track eraser, there are tons of products out there that all claim they do the best job.

Thanks for the reply Jeremy I appreciate it. Can you elaborate a bit about it? I noticed it's freeware so that's great.

Can others comment on CCleaner? Do you know if there is a better one out there or is that good enough?

Well, it's used by 45 million users so ask them if you want. "Better" is subjective, meaning that based on your opinion. If you feel it needs improvement or something needs to be added, e-mail the developer. The last time I requested something added to the program, I had it in the next build 2 weeks later. Cheers.

CCleaner is definitely one of the best tools out there to do what you are looking for. I have been using it for over a year on all of my machines and its the first thing I install when installing an OS.

Just don't use it with Vista yet. I think it caused some oddness with Menu's and other things there.

CCleaner is a good software, I use it as part of cleaning up my laptop when I feel I have installed to much crap and need to do some cleaning. Clean cache i also good - http://www.buttuglys...leanCache3.html

I used to overwrite my data like that, but its useless unles you simply give your PC to someone. Even then, all you need to do is 2 or 3 low-level formats of your drive and the data is unrecoverable. After finding that out, all these data wiping tools seem so redundant.
