chroniq
Sony stated that the ps3 will be region free before its launch, they also mentioned that this does not apply for movies only games. Can anyone confirm this? I am more interested in knowing if it will play ps2 games from different regions on your ps3 or will it be picky?
iller
As I understand it all PS3 should be region free while movies, PS1 and PS2 games still has region code. I haven't been able to try this myself and so will not believe that the PS3 is region free at all until someone can confirm it for me.
Bhav
All PS3 games are region free. But PS1 and PS2 games, and DVDs and Blu-ray movies are restricted.
MadFerIt
Yeah PS3 games are definitely region free. I wish the Wii/360 followed suit. Although with the 360 it depends on the game, some are region free, some aren't.

virgo89
There is no point playing ps2 games on a ps3, they look crappier than played on a ps2 itself.

MadFerIt
For whoever asked about Blue-Ray region coding.. I'm not entirely sure, but it's different from DVD region coding. I know Region 1 covers North America, Japan, etc.. *Here I found the specifics: A/1 North America, Central America, South America, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia.B/2 Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. C/3 India, Nepal, Mainland China, Russia, Central and South Asia. There you go ^_^.
gunnerhkjp
For the games, is region-free a definate thing, or is it region-free only for now?

MadFerIt
For the games, is region-free a definate thing, or is it region-free only for now? They could always add region encoding in a firmware upgrade, however it's doubtful they'd ever do it.. Not to mention the games previously released would have to be "patched" for region coding.
