Do DVI-I to HDMI cables exist?

Yes, they definitely do exist, and they are very easy to find (at least in the US). I'm using one now running from my digital cable box to my HDTV. To be honest, I'm not really sure what electronics stores exist in the UK, but in the US you can just go to Radio Shack and get a DVI-to-HDMI cable for about $30. Any large electronics retailer that sells HDTVs will surely have them.

You can get DVI-I to HDMI cables, but they're a bit pointless since the HDMI interface will not accept the analogue signal. Since DVI-I carries both analogue and digital signals and HDMI only accepts digital signals, the analogue signals in a DVI-I cable are simply ignored, making them no different to an HDMI-D to HDMI cable.

I've just bought a similar cable for my Sony Bravia tv and also had a really lousy connection with it - I think the problem may be down to Screen timings, in which case you might need to use a program called PowerStrip. I'd be interested to know if anyone has got theres working, I've given up for the moment but if it gives a much nicer picture instead of VGA-VGA i'd like to try again.

boot the system with the regular LCD and choose 50hz in the refresh settings since it seems your HDTV only accepts that... youre in the UK so that's why i say so (i could be totally wrong!!!!) Once you have done that then plug in the HDTV and then see if that works. If not then undo all that. You probably have your refresh rate set so high since you're used to looking at it on an LCD. Newer LCDs can go as high as 120hz but HDTVs only go to 60hz.
