I'm getting there, with regards to being able to craft a hat :p Now got 2 reclaimed and half way to a 3rd, then just 1 more and I can choose between a medic / solly hat!

If I have any high amount of writes going on with my SSD it gets the stuttering issue so I know something is going on rather easily and can look into it. I also tend to keep an eye on my HDD activity light for high usage, if it seems very active I always just open Windows 7 resource monitor and check out whats slamming my C drive.

Ahh right. I haven't noticed the stuttering issue with any other applications so far though, or even just within Windows.

@The_Decryptor

All this idle time finally paid off :p

I actually wanted the Ushanka :p I'm already up to one reclaimed metal again so this time it's a Pyro hat.

And speaking of idling, it "only" took me around 210 hours to get enough items to craft the hat. My total played time has doubled in the last week due to idling alone.

  • 2 weeks later...

I never noticed this before, but the buffer banner also applies to sentries.

While idling on a server I built a sentry facing the spawn points, solider ran over and did the bugle thing, and my sentry started getting minicrits.

Aaah really? I'll have to test that out tonight :D

While idling on a server I built a sentry facing the spawn points, solider ran over and did the bugle thing, and my sentry started getting minicrits.

It doesn't buff the sentries, so to speak. Instead, if the engy is affected by the buff banner, it passes on to his sentry.

You can have a sentry covering the point, and be on the front lines (as an engy). If a soldier uses his buff banner and you are affected by it (on the front lines, still), your sentry way back on the point will get mini-crits if it shoots anything. At the same time, a buff banner soldier standing by your sentry on the point and using his banner WILL NOT affect the sentry, unless you (as an engy) are also in range.

So yes, a buff banner can boost a sentry, but it does not boost the sentry directly, it does so through the engy that built it....I have used this before to help defend the final point when the enemy pushed in.....it buffed the damage up enough to kill a non-uber demo before he could do anything.

An engineer update seems to be in the works:

Dammit dammit dammit dammit!

March 2, 2010 - Brandon Reinhart

We're plugging away at the Engineer update. He's an interesting class to work on, because he creates a larger footprint in the game than any other class. This means we have a lot of options to work with, and the resulting set of ideas is truly daunting. Since we've already built and playtested some things that haven't worked out (with no false modesty, I think we've mastered the art of rapidly making things that aren't fun), we thought it might be interesting to give you some of our failed experiments.

I say hell yes to an engineer update. It's about time.

There's another update coming before the engineer update, the most common things that people say will be in it are community items, and trading.

Here's hoping they also up the backpack size, Having one of each current item takes up the majority of it.

New TF2 blog post answering any questions regarding the Mac port:

Q: I own TF2 on the PC. Do I have to buy it again on the Mac?

A: No. If you own TF2 on the PC, you own TF2 on the Mac (and vice versa). You don't have to buy the game twice. In addition, the Steam Cloud will automatically propagate your configuration settings and custom sprays to your Mac for you.

Q: Is it just some crappy emulated version of TF2?

A: No! Also: How dare you! Mac users aren't getting a crappy emulated version of the game. TF2 will run natively on OSX, like an actual big boy game for adults.

Q: Hmm, that all sounds pretty good. But I'll bet I can't play with my friends who own Macs if I'm on my PC.

A: Mac and PC users will all play together, on the same servers. We're not creating two separate universes. We're all going to be one big, happy family with guns locked in a bloody, never-ending struggle for cap points.

Translation: The day Steam and TF2 for OS X go live my Boot Camp partition is going bye-bye.

That's awesome. I wasn't excited at all for this announcement until I heard that. That, and the fact that I don't have to repurchase the game. Good show, Valve.

Bah Decryptor, I only have the Trophy Belt and Mining Light (ML is great, TB is worst hat in the game).

If you idled 24/7 you'd have more :p

I'm only doing it since I've have absolutely no interest in the game recently, it comes and goes in waves so soon enough I'll be back on it for a couple of hours every day. Due to how the drop system works, when I play normally I might get 1 item a week, leaving it idling when I'm not playing gives me a half decent chance of finding stuff (I've found 3 hats in total since I started idling 24/7, which was about 3 weeks ago, so the rates are pretty damn low)

The main benefit is the dupes you can use for crafting, I'm working towards a Medic hat at the moment.

Edit: Since about 4pm yesterday (now 12am-ish) I've gotten a total of 3 items, yay for pseudo-random number generation!

Apparently there's an update coming out "tomorrow" adding 3 new items or so, due to a bug they've already started "dropping" (I have one) but don't end up in your backpack. People freaked out of course, since something similar happened with the old idler app, but in this case anybody playing has a chance of getting the items.

People think it's some of the competitive items (Fireproof suit, heavy speed boost gloves, etc.), but we'll find out tomorrow.

Bah, fireproof suit.

Personally, I think there's a missing link between the spy and the pyro. I can name at least two fan videos suggesting a romance between them. :shiftyninja:

Umm, has anyone been suffering from bad framerates today? I was playing great yesterday, fps was well over 100 on max settings and today, I can barely get over 10 :s Needless to say, this is putting me near the bottom of the charts. 3 points in 5-10 minutes :(

Edit: Just tried playing Mass Effect 2. I think this bad fps issue is in every game for some reason. Never mind.

I'm only doing it since I've have absolutely no interest in the game recently, it comes and goes in waves so soon enough I'll be back on it for a couple of hours every day

haha I'm the same... I'll play it for hours for a few weeks and then suddenly drop it and ignore it for ages. Tis the same with World of Warcraft.

New weapons.....

Pyro gets a melee that does double damage to buildings and 0.75 damage to people. (Sledgehammer)

Soldier and Demo get a melee that does +1 capture rate (scout speed cap rate?) but they take 10% more damage from bullets. (The Paintrain)

Heavy gets a chocolate bar (or something like that) that gives him +50 max health for 30 seconds.

And a new hat for every class.

Medic - Surgical Mask

Pyro - Some weird octopus hat apparently

Soldier - Samurai Helmet

Demo - Pimp Hat (no clue what it looks like)

Scout - Beanie

Heavy - Elvis Hair

Spy - Judges Hairpiece (I think thats what someone said it was)

Sniper - an old style safari hat

Engineer - Welders Mask

The little green one is the pyro hat, all the others are fairly obvious.

EDIT: Better new hat images:

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
