Jason
I haven't tried Exch 2003 yet as I don't need it for work (yet), but if like 2000 you will need to run the forest prep and domain prep swiches to add scehma to AD, and install the required parts of IIS needed. UnaBonger
Whats the error? You know you have to install AD first right?

If you are,the schema will be created automatically.
budwizer
You actually have to manually run ForestPrep and DomainPrep before installing Exchange, this is the case with both E2K and E2K3. With E2K3 you also have to make sure the following are installed and enabled: .NET Framework ASP.NET World Wide Web service SMTP service NNTP service You also have to enable ASP.NET by allowing Active Server Pages. Grab the getting started guide from MS if you have never used Exchange before, it should answer most of your questions: http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluati...ion/ti/beta.asp
red8Rain
You actually have to manually run ForestPrep and DomainPrep before installing Exchange, this is the case with both E2K and E2K3. that's not true. Read my last post. When I install the organizations ex2k server as a domain adminstrator and member of the Enterprise Admin group, the schema was created automatically. Jason
Or be part of the schema admin group.
budwizer
IPv6, I have read your post however you have to manually run setup /forestprep and setup /domainprep PRIOR to installing Exchange, no matter what AD group you are in. You have to be a member of a group that permissions to extend the schema but you also have to manually run those 2 switches prior to just trying to install Exchange. UnaBonger
It is "recommended" that you run /forestprep & /domainprep. I don't think it's required...
Imaginos
I ran both of the preps just to be safe and it all worked perfectly.
budwizer
It is more then a recommendation: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;326136 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;262068 It has been a long time since I have tried to install an Exchange environment or upgrade one without running those switches (I think the last time was when Exchange 2000 was RC2) but if I recall correctly it won't work and crashes out. Jason
It is "recommended" that you run /forestprep & /domainprep. I don't think it's required... You have to run these to update Active Directory's schema with Exchange info, it has to be done weather its automatic or manual. You run forestprep then domainprel in that order. red8Rain
to end this little discussion on forestprep and domainprep. Install an ex2k server in an isolated forest, first remove yourself from the Enterprise Admin group, install ex2k. you will get an error. Next, added yourself to the Enterprise Admin group, install ex2k, no error. This is done without using forestprep and domainprep.

UnaBonger
Is active Directory installed already? Remove the POP3 service and make sure you install SMTP & NNTP. When you install Active Directory configure your server to either "Create a new domain in a new Forest" or "Join an existing Domain". It looks like you server isn't making contact with the domain... Jason
Do you have Active Directory installed, its trying to run domainprep and forestprep to add schema to AD but it isn't finding it. If you have no clue how to set up Exchange, do you know how to administer it once installed ?
Premgenius
I know how to Administer it cos i used to do it @ wrk
Jason
You administered Exchange 2003 ? knowing Exchange 2000 doesn't mean you know Exchange 2003, also if you know how to administer it surely you would know how to install it, I mean thats the simple bit. red8Rain
knowing Exchange 2000 doesn't mean you know Exchange 2003 Since I haven't worked with 2003, I can't say much but exchange 5.5 was almost the same as Exchange 2000 with extra features and functionalities. Run dcpromo and have it configure AD and DNS on its own.
