Browser question

Question

In all the browsers when you type in the address bar it suggest websites based on your history and your bookmarks. I find this feature very annoying. I found out how to turn it off in Firefox but does anyone know how to turn it off in Opera browser and or Safari?

I have tried figuring it out on these 2 browsers for along time going in the options and other things and have not found a way. Firefox was easy to turn off this feature.

Also does Safari have addons like Firefox does and themes?

Go to opera:config (in your address bar) and do a search for autocompletion. Uncheck the 2 results that appear.

It will still have a dropdown bar when you type that has some stuff (it contains bookmarks but, with the option unchecked it hides the bookmarks, and it does not contain history items, at least I do not think it does, but I have history disabled).

There may be a better way to disable them, thats just what I could find in a short time, if anyone has a better way then please post it, I too would like this (I have my history disabled and only access bookmarks through Opera's bookmark section).

EDIT: Here we go: opera:config#Auto%20Dropdown

Go to the above in Opera, uncheck that, it completely disables the dropdown for the address bar.

I am using the latest Opera version and it did not have a config tab or button or anything like that.I looked in the preferences area and had nothing of the sort.

I was able to type opera:config#Auto%20Dropdown in the address bar for me to remove it. So thanks it did help and it worked.

However there must be an easier way to find this for the average person to find? I spend forever trying to find another way but could not find

Yeah, I looked through the options and couldn't find it, IMO that type of thing is considered a more advanced feature, so people like yourself (someone knowing where to go to look for help) would be able to find it if they really needed to, while the average person probably wouldn't be able to find it.

    • Brave Browser 1.91.171 by Razvan Serea Brave Browser is a lightning-fast, secure web browser that stands out from the competition with its focus on privacy, security, and speed. With features like HTTPS Everywhere and built-in tracker blocking, Brave keeps your online activities safe from prying eyes. Brave is one of the safest browsers on the market today. It blocks third-party data storage. It protects from browser fingerprinting. And it does all this by default. Speed - Brave is built on Chromium, the same technology that powers Google Chrome, and is optimized for speed, providing a fast and responsive browsing experience. Brave Browser also features Brave Rewards, a system that rewards users with Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for viewing opt-in ads. This innovative system provides an alternative revenue model for content creators and a way to support the Brave community. SlimBrave Neo takes all the good things about Brave and makes them even better by keeping everything clean, light, and privacy-focused. It removes the extra clutter, turns off features you might not need, and cuts down on anything that could slow you down or collect unnecessary data. Because it relies on simple settings and policies instead of modifying the browser itself, you still get full Brave compatibility—just in a smoother, lighter, and more privacy-friendly package. Brave Browser 1.91.171 changelog: General Fixed Cardano not being disabled on upgrade to Brave Origin. Upgraded Chromium to 149.0.7827.103. Origin Removed “Survey Panelist” setting from brave://settings/privacy. Fixed P3A and usage ping under brave://settings/privacy being displayed on first launch on Linux. • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
