"What language is microsoft's language made in?"

What dumb verbage.  Jeez.  Did you graduate junior high?

wow doug, and what good reading skills you have! considering you said, "verbage" and he also said:

p.s. i was ment to say what language is microsoft's software made in as the topic title
you shouldn't insult him

as for your other question, C++ is a very good language to learn for programing

once you understand the concepts of a language other ones arent to hard to pick up, usually its just sytanx that is different in terms of writting the code. when you say learn 8, how advanced do you plan on getting, that would determine how hard it becomes

Mike :ike:

ps. visual basic would be good to know, it is easy. I've learned Java, the things i did with it were pretty advanced.

what are the 5 you do know?

Hey Adrian. Trying to learn 8 languages in your summer holiday is too much, and you won't be very strong in any of the languages. Your time would be better spent picking a single language and spending your time learning it well, that way, at the end of the summer, you may not know 8 languages, but you'll be able to write a useful program. With regard to which language to learn, C++ is the old favourite, and I don't think it's going anywhere, but you might want to focus on the .net platform, for which you may prefer C# (and you'll find it a lot easier to learn as well). Good luck.

Media Center is made in C#, but it uses precompiled C++ DirectX APIs to do the drawing and multimedia (also known as mananged DirectX). With C# and managed DirectX, you can get about 97 to 98 % of the performance of C++ programs. Meida Center is the closest thing to what Longhorn will be like. Longhorn's GUI will be written in Managed DirectX (say goodbye to ****ty GDI/GDI+).

I'd suggest you learn C#... all future MS apps will be in C#.

i already know vb, so do you suggest i take on C++ or C#?

Learn C.

You don't have to learn all of it, but start with C and then go over to C++. Then finally C#.

If you want to become a professional programmer... I suggest that you learn everything step-by-step so that you won't get confused now at the beginning.
