Stop router re-syncing

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to prevent my Siemens Gigaset SE572 Router re-syncing on its own ?

I switch it off and on and it will sync at a decent rate, then by the end of the day its dropped its download sync down from 6300kbps to 4700kbps which on a 6meg line is very noticable. If I cycle the power again, it will sync back up and give me the real download speed back.

Annoying as it takes a while for it to come back online.

It doesnt touch my upload speed, just the download speed.

ISP is UK Orange

Increase SNR margin and you will lose speed but gain stability.. (Often you can do this router side but your ISP can also do it for you if they are willing)

Switch from Fastpath to Interleaved, your ping will increase but you will gain stability.. (This needs to be done by ISP)

Factors in sync speed are DSLAM Chipset and Router Chipset, Line length, Line noise leading to Attentuation... higher attenuation is bad speedwise..

Crap internal wiring, improperly filtered extension sockets (and extension sockets in general), faulty microfilter all affect DSL sync speeds..

http://www.adslnation.com/products/xte2005.php Fitting one of these on your NTE5 master socket will replace your Microfilter, your extensions wire into it and are filtered so they dont affect your speed...

If your running the DSL off an extension socket that can also affect speed, you should run it from your master socket in the house.

To find out whether any equipment is interfering with your DSL..

http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/bt-master-socket-nte5.shtml

Access the test socket, plug in a microfilter and connect your DSL modem to it and monitor your stability... if its better or your sync speed is higher - something is affecting your line internally.

I'm guessing DSL?

its quite common to see an initial higher speed and then it to drop down to a slower speed as the router sets to the correct speed over a few hours/days. It takes time for it to decide on the correct upload download speed.

However if you are used to or are expecting a better speed you could try replacing the dsl filter, get a dsl faceplace, change the cable from the router to the socket.

You could get one of these adsl filters that goes in behind the main faceplate, can't remember what they are called.

If you have an NTE5 socket you can remove the bottom section of the faceplate and plug the DSL router straight in to the service port only, you could also check if you have any extensions in the house and make sure they have filters in etc.

I'm sure most of this stuff you probably already know or have tried but its the kind of things I would look for, also you can if the router has the function look on the web interface to check the SNR or errors and if they are too high speak to your service provider who may be able to do a line check

Thanks, and yea I have already checked out most of those ideas -

There is no test socket, it is in the master socket, Ive removed the ringwire, there are no extensions

what I have found though is these logs continously appearing in the router

Ive done a google, but cant really find anything about them, anyone have any ideas of the problem here?

I have remote management turned off - do I need this on to get firmware updates ?

And would I set it as any client, or... - it sounds a bit unsecure

capturein.jpg

Its different than that setting, thats just allowing remote management of the web inteface.

Its dictated by ISP in the firmware and usually not able to toggle from web interface, it allows them to remotely provision and upgrade their routers firmware and settings en mass whenever required.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TR-069

Should be safe unless someone at the ISP maliciously provisions a dirty config :p

lol Yea I figured this was not the right setting,

Ah well, so... This is a Siemens Gigaset SE572 Router

How much better speeds might I get if I bought a much better router, and some suggestions on which ones would be good ?

I am on ADSL2+ connection

Depends on your attenuation and ISP DSLAM Chipset... i.e. if your ISP uses Broadcom and your modem has Conexant it wont run at max speed...

Can you post modem stats? I.e. Sync speed, Attenuation, Modulation, Errors, etc..

Netgear Dg834v4/GT, DGN2000 are good modems when paired with DGTeam firmware...

Is that from test socket?

You should be able to get around 7200Kbps Max on a good quality line... Your noise margin is 9dB which will affect speeds but introduces stability..

A SNR/Noise margin of 6dB is usually sufficient and provides more speed.. but could introduce more instability.. Not sure whether you can change it on Gigaset modems.

I'd recommend trying the netgears i listed above since you can customise downstream noise margin, they are very stable also.

They may not match Oranges DSLAM chipset though so im unsure how speed will be affected but you could probably make it up with SNR Tweaking...

There is no test socket - that is plugged into the old master socket - the house is pretty old with original BT lines and old sockets installed

What is Oranges DSLAM chipset? I have just tried Telnetting into the router but can not get in

I have had around 7200kbps sync once - but it only lasted a couple hours - im lucky if I get 6000kbps now

    • It's about to become harder to turn off your Samsung TV, thanks to Instagram by Aditya Tiwari Meta announced that its Instagram for TV app has arrived on Samsung TVs in the US as part of its latest expansion, giving users one more way to scroll through Reels. The social media giant often comes under scrutiny for the "addictiveness" of its features, which leads people to spend excessive time on the platform. Interestingly, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri described spending 16 hours on the platform as "problematic use" but not "clinical addiction." Mosseri also compared scrolling on Instagram to binge-watching a show on Netflix. Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung TV models released in 2020 or later. The app is already available on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV in the US, which together account for the majority of connected TV devices. The company said it will test several new features to improve the living room and family experience while using Instagram on the big screen. Watching vertical videos on a big screen isn't something many would be excited about. Probably that's why Meta is testing a dedicated home for horizontal videos. Creators will get the opportunity to design content for TV screens and get more ways to reach audiences, according to Meta. If you found an interesting Reel while doomscrolling on your phone, you'll be able to cast it to your TV. The feature is available for testing on Instagram for TV on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, and it will also support videos from the Saved tab. Instagram for TV will be testing Channels organized around user interests, across genres such as comedy and sports, as well as content from favorite creators. Moreover, you can watch Stories on your TV. While Instagram is known for short-form videos, it's knocking on more doors to keep the audience hooked. The company said it's exploring new content formats for the big screen, including long-form creator content to cover topics in detail, episodic series to build suspense across multiple episodes, and creator live sessions on TV. All of the new updates put Instagram in competition with established giants like YouTube (and Netflix), which already have a robust presence on the big screen. In recent updates, Instagram added the ability to write an individual caption for each carousel image, manually re-order posts, and a paid version of the app.
    • I know RAM and storage prices are high right now, but I think it would have been better to have 1TB as the base level storage, especially as it's supposed to be for gaming. Plus a 2.5gbe ethernet port rather than only 1gbe.
    • I have installed the debloated version of Windows 11 25H2 Pro. I obtained the apps from store.rg-adguard.net. The size of the Photos app window is quite problematic for me; it consistently displays in a 16:9 aspect ratio, resembling a movie theatre screen, and cant remeber its last size and position. The Snipping Tool cannot capture the taskbar. When I select "Window" in capture mode, it allows me to capture menus or individual windows, but I am unable to capture just the taskbar. This functionality was available in version 24! I am on the same version numbers (latesst).
    • I'm already seeing my steam library, still swallowing the 16 Gb of RAM, then looking at the SD storage expansion and saying "what?".
