To restore The Market, just go into settings / privacy and hit reset.

Naturally the Europeans get this first. The rest of us on our Captivate/Fascinate/etc. are waiting impatiently!

Samsung announced it was a staggered roll-out with nordic regions getting it first.

If you've installed any lagfix remove it before updating or it can cause some very odd things (market missing etc) that might only come back after a phone reset.

You should be able to upgrade from official roms via kies without losing settings/apps, but some prefer to wipe still anyway.

According to the xda forums have a registry trick that can fool kies into thinking you are in a nordic region to get the update right now, it does not cause your phone to change imei or region or anything after the update, it only fools kies to let you download it, the update itself is the same for all regions it seems.

Exactly what I did, altered registry and grabbed the update, installed without issue.

Firstly, I downloaded and installed the latest version of kies (Kies_1.5.3.10093_82) and ran it and connected phone to PC, chose kies connection mode and once detected clicked firmware update option in kies. It said it couldn't be updated. I kept kies running, minimised it and ran regedit, located HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB and searched for string SoftwareRevision, HIDSWVER and ProductCode under DeviceDB. Once located, changed them to:

SoftwareRevision to “I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3″
HIDSWVER to “I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3″
ProductCode to “GT-I9000HKDXEE”

Closed regedit and swapped back to the running kies and clicked firmware upgrade again. This time it gave me the option for the 2.2 update.

Much better that you read through it here - http://www.careace.n...device-country/ or here http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=809423

As far as I'm aware, the update is only compatible with a GT-I9000, for phones from Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. If you have the correct model and reside in a supported country, what stage didn't work for you? Kies connection issues or unable to locate relevant sections in registry?

Worked first time for me, using O2 and from UK.

Looks like the issue might be the new firmware not being approved to use protected apps. Hopefully this will resolve itself after a few days, when Google updated the market for my new firmware.

Ive been on the firmware for some time and not experienced any such issues. Why do you think the firmware is to blame?

to reset:

Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset.

Make sure you backup your contacts first!

Froyo is not out yet.

The roll out in the Scandinavian countries was a test to see how Froyo would be received and what problems, if any, it may bring. JP6/JPM are not final releases. The UK and other European countries will get it in a few weeks.

I've got not evidence for my claims, just from what I've seen on numerous sites.
