Any tips for a 10-foot experience in Windows 7?

Recommended Posts

I just finished getting my PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) hooked up to the 50" plasma in my "man-cave". It'll be used primarily for two things: gaming and movies. I've been using Boxee for a while, so that's gonna take care of my Movie/TV/Netflix needs.

Right now, I've got the resolution set to 1920x1080, 60Hz, 150% text/icon zoom. This seems to do the trick, but I was just curious if anyone had any other tips that could "enhance" my 10-foot experience w/ Windows 7. Maybe there's a theme out there that helps? I dunno.

Thanks.

I would suggest Windows Media Center along with the Media Browser plugin, which will enhance you experience with themes and plugins on its own..

It is the best you can have for Movies.

Also, I have all my TV's "enhancing features" disabled as I find the quality of the movies played in my HTPC a lot better without them.

I mean features like Dynamic Contrast, Auto Color, Anti-Blur and what not....

You can also use a Wireless mouse and keyboard if you don't have any already. A remote is also a must.

Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. Standard wireless kb/mouse have ****ty ranges and will be a very frustrating experience....if it either even work.

I actually solved that by getting a 15ft. USB repeater and a hub, so now all my USB ports, including the receivers for my wireless mouse and keyboard, are directly under the couch.
