Chrome 10 to include free HTML5 games.

chrome 10

Until today Google's Chrome OS has been free of added bloat, but according to the Google Operating System Blog the Chrome 10 Dev Channel build will include two HTML5 games: Poppit and Entaglement. If you're running the Dev Channel build, the games will install themselves automatically. If you don't want them you will need to uninstall them manually.

Poppit is a game where your primary objective is to pop groups of like colored balloons. Popping the balloons releases prizes, once you've collected all of the prizes you win the game. Entanglement is a puzzle game that takes place on a hexagon shaped board with hexagon shaped pieces. You have to connect the pieces to create an unbroken line by laying down tiles next to each other without going over the edge.

Many are wondering if the added software is a sign of things to come for Chrome OS, or if it's just a small addition to get people excited about HTML5. The consensus among online users seems to be that Google should ask or suggest software before installing it or including it into the OS.

Re-phrase the article, it's not bloat. The only thing installed to your browser is an icon really that is a shortcut to a webpage.

Speaking of apps, they need to delete the "apps" that are just shortcuts to web pages.

It's false. An installed application has more right than an usual webpage in Chrome. They can perform things you would not expect from a simple webpage, and whithout your consentment (like any installed application could).

They are still webpages so they're limited, but they're granted many authorisation a normal webpage would not get, or would need to ask.

Was highly anticipated to become bloatware. The mission started and will end up as a nuke-bomb.

They just doing steps carefully and slowly.

Keep this garbage out of Chrome, please. Let the Farmville retards get their kicks elsewhere! I prefer my browser lean 'n' mean.

That is all.

Can't beleive people still complain about ram usage.. Ram Usage is important on a Mobile Phone. You can buy 8gig of ram for 130$ nowaday and future chipset will support 32g of ram. As long as the browser doesn't heat 2.5g of ram, i personnally don't care..

People around here seem to want insane amounts of memory but they complain when applications start using it. Laughable really.

Really.. I have 4GB of ram and the browser is definitely the most used application on my computer. If it needs more ram, take more ram. I'm not going to complain as long as my computer is still running up to speed.

Chrome became bloated the day it included Flash 10 by default.

It became extremely secure when that happened as it placed Flash in a sandbox. The majority of users would have had flash either way.

Great, upgrade to 10, have to remove pointless links from it. Normally if it is in the dev it will make it to stable, and this does not seem like a change that would cause issues but has received some thought (if not a great thought).

The consensus among online users seems to be that Google should ask or suggest software before installing it or including it into the OS.
It's DEV CHANNEL, if users are not happy they can just stick with the stable official release.

Stop whining about the bloat please. It is crystal clear to me that they are only including this in the DEV channel so that people can TEST HTML5 OUT-OF-THE-BOX.

And to the news poster: where does it say that Chrome 10 will include these games when it goes STABLE and OFFICIAL ? Misleading title maybe, just maybe. Title should say "Chrome 10 Dev Channel includes 2 games".

Poppit doesn't even load for me. I get the poppit screen with the EA logo and then a black screen. Game never loads. Is there an advert in there?

Chrome... 10!? All I have done is blinked, and suddenly the version number has increased by 2!

We're talking Dev version, which lets power users preview upcoming features, at the cost of potentially encountering bugs or broken features.

AFAIK Meph is right...
I mean, there is a default build, a beta build and a dev build, if I'm not mistaken.
Chrome is doing insane version jumps...

Try the extension called Neat Bookmarks. I know it is not a sidebar, but it provides a much easier way to access bookmarks. Really wish there was a proper official or 3rd party sidebar extension!

I'll recommend this too. Works well.

As Omen points out, these are not pre-loaded games on an operating system, they're links to url's where you can play the games. People say they should suggest games for us, but even a suggestion would be more obtrusive than this.

Yeah thank god the pill stops the spread of STD's, too. I ALWAYS keep a condom handy. Never trust the pill for anything more than avoid pregnancy and, even then, it's not perfect.
