Conarium, another Lovecraftian horror game will arrive on Xbox One in 2018

It would seem like you can't turn your back on the internet for five seconds until another horror game based on the works of H.P Lovecraft pops up, vying for your attention. Just this month, we have reported on two new Lovecraftian horror games; Moons of Madness by Rock Pocket Games, and Black Mirror by THQ Nordic. Focus Home Interactive announced its own project recently, simply named Call of Cthulhu which is expected to launch on console and PC later this year.

Conarium, which launched on PC in June, is the most recent addition to this line-up, being announced for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 today, which is being developed thanks to a partnership between Zoetrope Interactive and the publisher Iceberg Interactive. Based on the novella At the Mountains of Madness by H.P Lovecraft, which was written in 1931, it follows several scientists testing the limits of what we believe the laws of nature and physics are; as the product page reads:

You, as Frank Gilman, open your eyes inside a room filled with strange, pulsating noises. Patterns of lights executing a Danse Macabre on the walls is presented by a queer device on the table. Having recalled nothing other than that you’re in Upuaut, an Antarctic base located near the South Pole, you find the place deserted and have a distinct feeling of something being terribly wrong. [...] You have lost something important or gained something sinister…

The game will be developed using Unreal Engine 4, which, according to the developer, will allow for some 'wonderful graphics'. Key features include a story faithful to the style of Lovecraft, and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.

As of today, the game has received very positive reviews on Steam since launch, so it should make for a great addition to the upcoming line-up of horror games on consoles, including The Evil Within 2 from Bethesda. The developer noted that the game will launch on the console in early 2018.
