HTC has published a cryptic teaser on its Facebook page in Taiwan, sparking speculation that the company is preparing to unveil a successor to its high-end 10 handset next week.
The teaser image simply states that "Spring is coming", while the Facebook post itself refers to March 20, adding that "HTC will give you an unexpected surprise". Apart from that, the company has offered no other information about its planned announcement.
TechRadar and The Verge have both suggested that it may be preparing to announce the 'HTC 11', following on from the 10 flagship that it launched last year. But Chialin Chang, President of HTC's Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, already ruled out a 'HTC 11' in January, saying that no device with that name will be released this year. Chang added that HTC will be significantly reducing the size of its smartphone range in 2017.
However, later that month, Chang said that the company will launch "another flagship" with a new processor, in addition to the U Ultra flagship that it unveiled earlier this year with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chip. Even if the next device isn't called the 'HTC 11', two months after the U Ultra's announcement seems awfully soon to be showing off another new range-topper.
Other possibilities for next week's mysterious reveal include a new addition to its Vive virtual reality platform, or perhaps even a new version of its Re camera. But another option that you can definitely strike off the list is a smartwatch, as HTC confirmed a few weeks ago that it's "not going to have a watch in the short term".
