iPad 2 leaked image suggests February 9 announcement

Now that the Verizon iPhone has been announced, the next Apple item to take center stage will be the iPad 2. There has been a lot of speculation about when it will be launched, but a recently discovered image has a date of February 9th on the home screen. Interestingly enough, the original iPad promo images have a 27 as the date, that's the same day it was announced.

Could it really be this easy? 9to5mac pointed this out but if you take it one step further and look at the iPhone 4 promo images, they show a 7 as the date. The iPhone 4 was announced on June 7. It seems a bit odd that two dates have lined up perfectly with the promo images that Apple is currently using. February 9 is a Wednesday and the original iPad was announced on January 27, also a Wednesday.

To add even more evidence to the speculation, the iPhone 3G was announced on June 9 and this also ties to their promo images.

Has Apple's promo images finally caught up with them, has their secret code finally been broken? We will finally know on February 9 but as it stands right now, the last two major product announcements for the company have occurred on the dates in their promo images.

Cool, can't wait to here the revolutionary bluetooth apple invented when this gets released....it'll be revolutionary! Hope the bezel shrinks, the ipad1 was too thick

IPad announced on 27 of March but the day was Thursday on the iPad promo is 27 Wednesday. So this is just someone try to give hopes for early coming.

woah somebody cracked apple's secret code. well can't wait to see the announcement, and still waiting for an ms tablet to blow my mind

I read somewhere the time plays into it too. I think it was Scott Forstall who said that when they practice their presentations they (Apple) tries to have the big announcement around 40 min in after it starts. So this is why you see 9:40 AM or 9:41AM on the ads/promo shots a lot.

a more interesting thing(in my eyes), is the fact the the hardware is different. The screen is bigger(look at the slimmer border), and there is a hard border around the screen(too detailed; like the screenshot is pasted onto a pictured and has a border added to make it more "natural"). Also, like in in the "proof of camera", the icons are rounder and includes a think border around EVERY icon. Guessing that's not in the 4.3b2 ? Fake

Did anyone else notice the lack of homescreen dots along the bottom of the second ipad in the main picture
and the wallpaper doesn't look like apples style
Might be photoshopped

Yeah it looks really weird... I was looking at the icons as well, they look odd too... The shadowing/glow around the icons (especially google maps) is very noticeable which in the iphone do NOT look like that.
I think it's a fake picture

^ The picture you're referring to does have the same date on it. It's also most likely February. While you can't make out the month, you can see its too long to spell "March"

HP will announce their WebOS devices on Feb 9th (already announced) makes sense for Apple to try and overshadow that event. Same day tho, kinda harsh

The iOS Calendar icon does not show the month, it shows the day of the week. Match up the 9th with the day of the week on the Calendar icon for the correct month and you *might* have your release date.

Duh, forgot about that lol. Well Wednesday is long enough to work, but then again most weekdays are. I thought I was on to something there

On an image from 4.3 beta 2, the ipad have three extra icons(camera, facetime, photobooth), on this picture, it does not have them...

Earlier build, apple might of removed those icons thinking the public would notice them however did not think they would notice the date on the calender.

This will be unreliable in future releases now though

people will find anything and grap on to it wont they lol.

Being that Apple is probably the world's best at marketing...it is not a stretch. Put that in your images to reinforce the message to the buyer.

March 9? Also Wednesday...

Quite true, there were other suggesting rumors that pointed to a feb launch and Apple typically announces the same products around the same time of the year. Jan 27 and Feb 9 are not that far apart.

would also like to point out that the apple images of the iphone 3g has the date of the 9th on it, well now the iphone 3G was also released on the 9th
