Microsoft updates OneDrive with improved sync and document change notifications

Microsoft has updated OneDrive with two new features making the cloud storage service even more useful for sync and sharing.

The latest update to OneDrive.com brings the "Add to my OneDrive" button that was revealed by the company last week through its UserVoice page. The feature will allow users to quickly include any particular file or folder in their core OneDrive folder that syncs with the desktop or mobile apps.

With the latest version of Office combined with OneDrive, Microsoft allows collaborating on documents without conflicts and the latest sync feature makes it even better. According to Microsoft, the above functionality is only available with the OneDrive apps for Windows 7, Windows 10 and Mac but not for Windows 8.1.

The other feature that is also part of the new OneDrive update is real-time notifications for any edits done to shared documents making it easier to track changes. The notifications will be sent to OneDrive mobile apps including that on the Apple Watch. Additionally, Microsoft will be emailing a daily summary of all the edits performed on shared files to the owner. The documents can be reverted to an earlier version using the history.

As the features are still rolling out across the web and on apps, it may take a few days till they appear for every user.
