Windows Phone GDR2 update finding its way onto some Samsung ATIV devices

We all get excited when our gadgets and smartphones receive software updates, so news that some folks in Germany are receiving the Windows Phone GDR2 update has made us very happy.

WPArea.de is reporting that many of its readers are receiving update notifications on their Samsung ATIV S devices. Upon hitting update, the phones receive the latest public version of Microsoft’s OS. It seems the update is only live for unlocked Samsung ATIV phones.

The GDR2 update is designed for all Windows Phones and it brings some improvements but no new major features. Xbox Music, Skype, Internet Explorer, Data Sense are some of the services that are getting improvements with this update, but keep in mind that not all features are available everywhere.

While it’s a bit disappointing that only unlocked ATIV devices are receiving this update at the moment, we’re hoping this is a good a sign and the general release is not far behind.

If you’re receiving the GDR2 update notification be sure to let us know in the comments below.
