12 years after launch, Payday 2 is getting a subscription service offering all DLC packs

Payday 2, the hit cooperative heisting title that launched in 2013, is known for having a vast number of DLC packs that add extra content. Now, the publisher Starbreeze is introducing a new way of accessing all the content that doesn"t require purchasing each and every add-on: a subscription plan.

Announced today, the aptly named "Payday 2 Subscription" on Steam comes in at $4.99 a month or $19.99 for six months. This carries access to every currently available DLC pack for Payday 2, which amounts to almost 70 pieces of content that include heists, weapons, and cosmetics.

Starbreeze is promoting the new subscription as another option players can use to gain all the content if they don"t want to splurge on purchasing the entire catalog. It also assured players that direct purchasing of DLCs will still be available going forward and that this is only a separate option.

“With more than a decade of content behind PAYDAY 2, we want to give players greater flexibility in how they experience the game,” said Gustav Nisser, Head of Commercial at Starbreeze. “The subscription service makes it simple and cost-effective to enjoy everything PAYDAY 2 has to offer – whether you’re new to the game or returning to explore DLCs you haven’t yet played. At the same time, all existing DLCs remain available for purchase as before. This is about giving players more choice."

The Payday 2 Subscription is now available on Steam with its own store page. All that"s required to subscribe is a copy of the base game. If the subscription is canceled, the relevant Weapons, Characters, Heists, and Masks will become unavailable in the game until it is renewed, but progression-related content like the level, money, and inventory will not change.
