After offering more features for free, Microsoft Teams is down for many users [Update]

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft announced plans to help workers work from home by making some premium Teams features available for free, as a response to the increasing urge for isolation due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, as more and more people are relying on the service, it seems to be experiencing some issues.

The Microsoft 365 Status Twitter page, which keeps users updated on any issues with Microsoft 365 services, first acknowledged that users were having issues at around 4:50 AM Eastern Time. Two hours later, the company said the issue had been mitigated, but reports kept pouring in, and the team once again said it was aware that the problems persisted. Currently, you can track the issue with the code TM206559 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

According to DownDetector, reports of issues with Teams has seen a significant spike, specifically starting at around 10 AM Eastern Time. The outage map shows that most affected users are in Europe, but some areas of the United States are also being impacted significantly.

Microsoft"s cloud services experience outages more frequently than most would prefer, and seeing as there are a lot more people working from home during this time, it"s especially troubling for Teams to be experiencing issues. Hopefully, things will be sorted out sooner rather than later.

Update: Microsoft says it has rerouted connections to alternate systems and the impact should be mitigated. More updates on the issue can be tracked using the code TM206556 in the Admin Center.
