Amazon announces massive €1.4 billion investment in the Netherlands

Amazon has announced plans to invest more than €1.4 billion in the Netherlands over the next three year (2025-2027), representing its most significant financial commitment to the country since the launch of Amazon.nl in 2020. With this investment, Amazon will support both its retail business and Amazon Web Services (AWS), it’ll focus on infrastructure development and helping small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

The multinational said that resources will be used to improve the overall experiences for both customers and entrepreneurs by improving technology and logistics.

Eva Faict, Country Manager of Amazon Belgium and Amazon the Netherlands, said:

“The Netherlands is an important growth market for us. Our primary focus is on continuously offering our Dutch customers low prices, a wide selection of products, and faster and convenient delivery options, and this investment of more than €1.4 billion in the Netherlands reflects that commitment.

This investment will substantially benefit Dutch SME entrepreneurs selling through Amazon.nl. More than 60% of all products sold on Amazon.nl come from our selling partners, and we"re seeing more and more Dutch entrepreneurs successfully growing their business and reaching customers in the Netherlands and around the world. We not only provide entrepreneurs with a sales channel but also support them with logistics solutions, marketing tools, and export opportunities”

Unfortunately, Amazon didn’t share details about whether this investment would create any new jobs in the Netherlands, however, it did share some to date figures. It said that over 4,500 SMEs sell on Amazon, with nearly 90% selling to customers across 170 countries. It employs over 1,000 people in the Netherlands across its offices and delivery station, and in 2024 alone its investments supported more than 2,000 indirect jobs and 900 induced jobs. All of this contributed over €200 million to the country’s GDP last year, with a cumulative contribution exceeding €1 billion since 2013.
