Amazon launches all-new Kindle Oasis for $249.99

Amazon has announced the all-new Kindle Oasis, which it dubs the most advanced Kindle ever. The device, notably, is waterproof and features the company’s largest and highest-resolution Paperwhite display. Despite the bigger screen, it’s still thin and light, making it a good tool for your reading.

Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon devices and services, said:

“Ten years ago, we introduced our first Kindle with the mission of delivering any book ever written in 60 seconds or less. With a larger 7-inch, 330 ppi display, waterproof design, and Audible built right in, the all-new Kindle Oasis is our most advanced Kindle ever. Its thin, light, and waterproof design allows readers to stay engaged in the author’s world in even more places than ever before.”

As already mentioned, the Oasis features a waterproof IPX8 display to help protect it from splashes. The $249.99 edition comes with 8GB of storage, but you can bump this up to 32GB for an additional $30 if you need more room to store magazines, comics, newspapers and audiobooks.

The Kindle Oasis includes 12 LEDs for reading at nighttime and can detect the lighting conditions using an adaptive light sensor. Additionally, you’ll be able to connect to Wi-Fi or take advantage of the free cellular connectivity provided by Amazon. The device is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping on October 31.
