Amazon says its upgraded Fire TV UI and app can help find movies faster than before

Amazon has unveiled a major redesign of its Fire TV user interface at CES 2026. The e-commerce giant said that the Fire TV UI is now better organized, cleaner, faster, and designed to help people find movies and TV shows more quickly than before.

Finding what to watch has become a pain point for viewers as the volume of content continues to grow across streaming services. Research found that US customers spend an average of 12 minutes searching for what to watch, up from 10.5 minutes in 2023.

Amazon"s revamped UI shows titles from all streaming services you use when finding new movies or TV shows, and the underlying code has been rebuilt to achieve a 20-30% speed gain while using the UI. On the outside, it offers improved layouts, redesigned color gradients, and more optimized spacing.

The new interface features tabs for Home, Movies, TV Shows, Sports, News, and Live TV at the top of the screen. Thumbnails for titles on the screen now have rounded corners, unlike square images in the past.

You can pin up to 20 apps on the home screen, up from just six previously, and long-press the home button to access a new shortcut panel that shows the most-used controls. The Alexa+ AI assistant is already available on Fire TV and now offers an improved cross-device experience with its newly launched browser version, Alexa.com.

Amazon"s major redesign comes months after its rival Netflix rolled out an updated homepage for its TV app. However, it"s another major announcement from the company following Vega OS, a new Linux-based operating system designed for Fire TV devices.

The e-commerce giant has also announced a revamped Fire TV app to pair with the new design. The Fire TV app didn"t offer much beyond serving as a backup remote when people lose the physical one. Its latest upgrade doubles the app as a second screen, allowing users to browse content, manage their watchlist, and play titles on the big screen, while featuring a UI design similar to Fire TV.

Amazon said that the new Fire TV UI and updated mobile app will start rolling out in February, beginning with Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the U.S.

It will arrive in more countries and on more devices during spring, including the latest-generation Fire TV 4K streaming media players and TVs, as well as TVs from partners like Hisense, Insignia, Panasonic, and TCL.
