Amazon has dropped its latest Kindle Colorsoft 16GB to $169.99, down from its $249.99 MSRP, saving buyers a clean $80 on one of the most compelling e-readers the company has ever shipped. That"s a 32% discount, so there"s no reason to sit on this one.
The Colorsoft packs a 7-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color display running at 300 PPI in black and white and 150 PPI in color, capable of rendering over 4,096 colors. Unlike the original 2024 Signature Edition that shipped with a controversial yellow band along the bottom of the screen, the 16GB model uses second-generation screen technology that eliminates that issue, giving readers a grey background and sharper black fonts.
Inside is a dual-core 2GHz MediaTek processor with 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 5.1 for Audible playback, USB-C charging, and a 2,310 mAh battery rated for up to eight weeks of reading on a single charge. The device is also IPX8 water-resistant. Multi-color highlighting in yellow, orange, blue, and pink rounds out the feature set for readers who annotate heavily.
This model makes the most sense for readers who regularly consume graphic novels, manga, comics, travel guides, or any illustrated content, categories where a monochrome Paperwhite simply falls short.
At $170 with no ads, it undercuts the Signature Edition by $110 and gives up only wireless charging and an ambient light sensor in the process. For most readers, that tradeoff is a no-brainer.
