Earlier this month at CES 2026, AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D touting it as the world"s fastest desktop gaming processor. The SKU is now officially available for purchase at $499 as promised by the company last week. To drive home the point of its performance, AMD had shared internal Windows 11 gaming benchmarks that showed the chip consistently outperforming rivals across popular titles.
That is one big reason AMD says you should consider buying the 9850X3D over any other processor including from its major rival Intel.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is built on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture and features 2nd-generation 3D V-Cache technology. With a boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz, the highest of any X3D chip to date, alongside 8 cores and 16 threads, a 120W TDP and 144MB of total cache, the processor is designed to deliver best-in-class gaming performance.
Thus this is the best AMD is able to deliver at the moment, at least until the next gen X3D processors arrive, something which could bring an even bigger leap in performance and efficiency according to early patent details.
AMD emphasizes that the high capacity and low latency L3 cache on X3D chips delivers strong performance in gaming such that even affordable DDR5 memory kits should offer plenty of good showing. You should keep an eye on some of the combo bundle deals we are covering as they can allow you to build an entire PC for a relatively low price.
This is the second big reason to consider the 9850X3D as AMD writes: "The 3D V-Cache technology delivers strong performance — even with more affordable DDR5 memory kits — enabling outstanding frame rates for smooth gameplay, streaming, and multitasking."
The processor is available now across major OEMs, system integrators, and retail partners. You can find them on Amazon and Newegg, among other places.
