Windows 11 is getting more modernized dialogs

Windows 11 was released over four years ago with a new design across its apps, settings, Start menu, and more. Unfortunately, a lot of stuff was left untouched by Microsoft from previous Windows versions, such as Windows 10, Windows 8 (remember the old volume slider?), and older releases. Windows 11 is now pushing five, but there are still plenty of dialogs and interfaces in need of a redesign, and Microsoft is slowly fixing them one by one.

The latest Windows 11 preview builds from the Dev and Beta Channels introduce several modernized dialogs that look on par with the rest of the operating system. Those include VHD confirmation dialogs and the Windows Protected Print dialog. All of them now look more modern and consistent, plus they support dark and light modes instead of colorful interfaces from the Windows 10/8 era.

Microsoft did not mention the redesign in the release notes for the latest Windows 11 builds, but it was spotted by @phantomofearth, who shared the discovery on X:

Also quietly rolling out are updated dialogs for turning Windows protected print mode on/off, here they are in both light and dark mode (feature Print_PlatformStabilizationFixes_2026_Wave1, ID 57741219) https://t.co/lAD6EsR9np pic.twitter.com/UoOwWfB0C0

Interestingly, these new dialogs arrived in the build that has more revamped dialogs. Microsoft has documented a redesign for Account Info and Account Type settings in the release notes. Those builds also contain better support for WEBP images, which you can now use as desktop backgrounds in the Settings app. In a typical fashion, there are many small fixes and patches that improve the overall experience with the operating system.
