Android Oreo starts rolling out to the Xperia XZ Premium

Owners of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium can look forward to start receiving Android Oreo, after the company announced that the new update will roll out to these devices from today. The update will introduce a myriad of features to the flagship device, mostly taking aim at the camera and related applications.

Included in this update is the 3D Creator application from Sony, which lets you use the camera on the device to scan an object to create a three-dimensional render, which can then be used as an avatar, or in some cases be printed using a 3D-printer. Beyond that, Predictive Capture aims to make taking selfies a breeze, with it "detecting" a smile by taking several pictures in rapid succession when you press the shutter, automatically choosing the perfect snapshot for you.

Other than that, Sony noted that the new update will bring improvements to the front-facing speakers, and when streaming music wirelessly to Bluetooth devices. In addition to this, it aims to make it easier to get to specific features easier, by allowing the user to "long press" a shortcut icon to see settings related to it, instead of looking through several menu options.

As with Android updates in general, the roll-out will depend on your mobile carrier, so you should receive a notification once it becomes available for download. As reported a few months ago, Android Oreo brings several other improvements to the mobile operating system from Google. Most notable features include autofill, picture-in-picture mode, notification dots for app icons, Android Instant Apps, and integrated printing support.

In August, Sony outlined which of its devices will get the Android Oreo update with the full list being available here.
