Anno 1800 is free-to-play on PC until August 25

Celebrating gamescom, Ubisoft has kicked off a free-to-play event for its city-building strategy game Anno 1800, the fastest-selling game in the franchise. The free trial is available right now for all PC players through Ubisoft"s Uplay platform, with the promotion slated to end on August 25.

The trial doesn’t include access to the entire game, however, with only the first three tiers of the sandbox mode and multiplayer being available. But, as a bonus, there is a new feature that will be available to trial-players first to try out, that being the new day and night cycle.

While the feature will be implemented onto the base game via a free update on September 10, this does mean that the only way for those who already own the title to try it out early would be to download and jump into the trial themselves.

September 10 is also the date when Anno 1800 will receive its upcoming Botanica DLC pack, which brings in a modular Botanical Garden as well as a Musical Pavilion for players to build, drawing in tourists to their bustling city.

Ubisoft also dropped teaser for The Passage today, the next DLC pack heading to Anno 1800 after Botanica. Instead of just pushing out trading ships, this DLC will bring the ability for players to construct trading airships and send goods through the sky for a change.
