Apple has officially announced the new iPhone 17 Pro series. It consists of two models: the standard iPhone 17 Pro with a 6.3-inch display and the bigger iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 6.9-inch display. In this generation, Apple ditched titanium for a unibody aluminum design made of custom alloy, which, according to Apple, is stronger and lighter than titanium.
The smartphone is protected by Ceramic Shield glass on both sides, with the screen covered by the second-gen Ceramic Shield with better scratch resistance. Apple also bumped the max display brightness all the way to 3,000 nits.
The iPhone 17 Pro is powered by the A19 Pro chip with improved processor and graphics performance. To keep temperatures under control, Apple designed a custom vapor chamber system. Using a unibody design also allowed Apple to equip the iPhone 17 Pro with the largest battery, which can also charge at 60W max.
Apple has also equipped the iPhone 17 Pro with the N1, its new custom wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. There is also the new C1X modem with faster performance and better energy efficiency. Apple claims that the C1X consumes 30% less energy than the C1 in the iPhone 16 Pro.
The camera system in the iPhone 17 Pro received a big upgrade this year. All three cameras now have 48MP Fusion sensors with up to 8x optical zoom. The iPhone 17 Pro can record video at 4K 120FPS, ProRes Log, and ACES. Additionally, Apple"s flagship smartphones now support ProRes RAW, Log 2, and genlock.
The front-facing camera now has a square 18MP sensor with Center Stage. It can automatically increase the field of view when detecting people in the frame, allowing you to take selfies in the right orientation by holding your phone however is most comfortable for you. Additionally, it can record in 4K HDR.
The iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available for preorder on September 12, 2025, with shipments starting September 19. The base 256GB configuration will set you back $1,099, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199. Additional storage options include 512GB and 1TB, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers the 2TB configurations for the first time. As for colors, you get to choose from Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver. Unlike the iPhone Air, which is now eSIM-only in all regions, the iPhone 17 Pro series still offers variants with physical SIM cards. However, eSIM-only models will have larger batteries and better battery life.
