Apple has officially announced the iPhone Air, its thinnest and lightest iPhone ever. The new iPhone Air is just 5.6 mm thick, and it uses Ceramic Shield glass on both sides. The front of the iPhone Air has been upgraded to Ceramic Shield 2, which offers better scratch resistance and improved durability.
Apple made its thinnest iPhone ever by moving the smartphone"s key components into the "camera plateau." The module houses the Air"s single 48MP camera, speaker, and Apple"s custom chips. Speaking of chips, the iPhone Air is powered by the six-core Apple A19 Pro, with improved graphics, neural accelerators in each GPU core, and other improvements. There is also the N1, Apple"s new custom wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Finally, the iPhone Air uses the new C1X modem with faster performance and better energy efficiency. Apple claims that the C1X consumes 30% less energy than the C1 in the iPhone 16 Pro.
The battery life is an obvious concern for such a thin phone. However, Apple promises "all-day battery life" thanks to internals optimized for the battery and the new adaptive power mode.
The iPhone Air has a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion and a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz with always-on capabilities. It also has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits for the harshest outdoor light.
Finally, Apple equipped the iPhone Air with a 48MP rear-facing camera, claiming a single camera gives users "the equivalent of four lenses." The biggest upgrade is the front-facing camera, which now has a square 18MP sensor with Center Stage. It can automatically increase the field of view when detecting people in the frame, allowing you to take selfies in the right orientation by holding your phone however is most comfortable for you. The front-facing camera can also record in 4K HDR.
The iPhone Air will be available for preorder on September 12, 2025, with shipments starting September 19. The base 256GB configuration will set you back $999, while additional storage options include 512GB and 1TB. As for colors, you get to choose from Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue. All iPhone Air models are eSIM-only in all regions.
