Apple has been rumored to be working on a 16-inch MacBook Pro for some time. As it turns out, it should be launching this October for around $3,000, and it will actually use a scissor keyboard rather than the company"s infamous butterfly keyboard.
According to analyst Jeff Lin, the new size could replace the 15-inch MacBook Pro altogether. The news comes as no surprise, given that the 15-inch model actually has a 15.4-inch display, so the 16-inch flavor would only have a screen that"s just over half an inch larger diagonally.
Another reason that it wouldn"t make sense to put the two PCs side-by-side in the lineup is because they"re so similar internally, with 45W Intel Core processors and dedicated graphics. Conversely, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is an entirely different beast, using 28W U-series processors with integrated Iris Plus Graphics.
A recent report from another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, stated that there will still be a 15-inch MacBook Pro in 2020, which will also have the new scissor keyboard. Perhaps, Apple"s plan is to introduce the 16-inch model this year at $3,000, and then wait until it can lower the barrier of entry on the new size before killing off its 15-inch sibling.
