Apple has just unveiled the iPhone 17 series, with the phones hitting the market this past Friday. However, that hasn’t stopped leakers from sharing new details about the next generation of iPhones.
The latest rumors about Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone come from Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, offering insights into the device’s design and pricing. According to Mark Gurman, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will draw inspiration from this year’s iPhone 17 Air, following a similar design philosophy.
This year, Apple replaced the Plus models in its lineup with the Air variant, which focuses on thinness and portability. Similarly, the foldable iPhone, expected to launch in 2026, is rumored to be “super thin,” marking a notable design achievement for Apple.
“I am increasingly told that users should imagine two titanium iPhone Airs side-by-side. In other words, it’s going to be super thin and a design achievement,” Gurman said.
Bloomberg previously reported that Apple is planning for a three-year cycle of major design changes to iPhones, with this year’s iPhone 17 series laying the groundwork. The Pro iPhone models now have redesigned back panels, and there’s a new Air model that focuses on thinness as a selling point. Further reports suggested that Apple is "rethinking its hardware in a way that we haven"t seen in years."
It seems that with the launch of the iPhone 17 Air, Apple aims to offer a glimpse of the design direction for future iPhone generations. Apple’s new design trend also hits its first foldable iPhone.
Regarding price and availability, Gurman reports that the foldable iPhone is expected to cost at least $2,000 and will most likely be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 series in September 2026. The devices could then hit stores a few months later.
According to previous reports, Apple is setting up a test production line in Taiwan and plans to manufacture its foldable iPhone primarily in China, with a possible portion of production in India.
