Asus' new ZenBook range starts at $1,099, includes "world's thinnest, lightest convertible"

At its briefing at Computex 2017 in Taipei, Asus has unveiled a trio of premium ZenBook laptops. The updated lineup includes the ZenBook Pro, ZenBook 3 Deluxe, and the ZenBook Flip S. The machines offer higher computational power - compared to their predecessors - and respectable specifications at a premium price tag.

Starting at $1,299, the Asus ZenBook Pro is the most powerful of the lot and features a 4K NanoEdge display, which supports the Asus Pen. The laptop weighs 1.8kg and is 18.9 mm thick. It sports a dual-fan cooling system with three heat pipes, which keeps its external temperature 2.35°C below the previous generation. Asus has also teamed up with Harmon Kardon to develop a quad-speaker, claiming to provide the "most incredible sound you’ve ever heard on a laptop". Other specifications are as follows:

  • Connectivity: 2 x Type-C USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Thunderbolt), 2 x Type-A USB 3.1 Gen 1, 1 x HDMI, 1 x Combo audio jack, 1 x Micro SD Card reader
  • Battery: Up to 14 hours of battery life

The company has also taken the wraps off the latest ZenBook 3 Deluxe, which starts at $1,199. Asus says that the machine packs a 14-inch display in a compact chassis that is roughly equivalent to what can be seen in 13-inch laptops. The ZenBook 3 Deluxe features a unibody design with an all-metal finish and golden borders. The company claims that the device offers "unprecedented performance" that leaves room for "unlimited possibilities". It also features a cooling system that is 3mm high.   • Connectivity: 2 x Thunderbolt 3 USB-C, 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 USB-C
  • Battery: Up to 9 hours of battery life

The last device in the lineup is the Asus ZenBook Flip S, which starts at $1,099. The firm has touted it as the world"s thinnest and lightest convertible. The device, which supports input via stylus, is 10.9mm thick and weighs 1.1kg. It features a 4K UHD display and two separate speakers powered by a smart two-channel amplifier, developed in partnership with Harmon Kardon.
