Obsidian"s fantasy RPG Avowed is now a year old, and right on schedule, it has rolled out the biggest update yet to the title. The aptly dubbed anniversary update is carrying fresh playable races, the highly requested New Game+ mode, photo mode, and more. The PlayStation 5 version of the game is finally here too.
The biggest addition of the update is the three new playable races, bringing in all five of the Eoran kith species from the developer"s Pillars of Eternity universe. Each of the species now has stat bonuses attached to them too, alongside background stat boosts.
"The new species are available for selection at character creation, but for those who are currently in the middle of an adventure and are looking for a change, a mirror has been added to the Party Camp that allows players to change their appearance, including species, at any time," added the developer.
Meanwhile, New Game+ unlocks after players complete the main storyline, giving them the chance to go through Avowed again while keeping their unlocks. This includes all abilities, attribute points, unique wearables and weapons, and other earned items. Things like gold, materials, and even companions and fast travel points are going away, however.
As expected, the enemies are tougher in this mode and have a chance to spawn with additional magical and physical modifiers to make them more dangerous.
Custom difficulty modifiers have arrived too. This offers adjustments to how much damage players do, their health and stamina regen rates, cooldowns, enemy health pools, companion damage, and so many more options.
For those that want to become a photographer in this fantasy land, an official photo mode has been added. Visuals and lighting have been given some enhancements via this update too, while the Quarterstaff has landed as a brand-new bludgeoning weapon that comes complete with wand-style finishers.
Of course, the platform expansion is a big piece of news too. Avowed is now the latest Xbox-published game to land on the PlayStation 5. It costs $49.99 for the standard edition and $59.99 for the premium edition. The Anniversary update is now available across all platforms too, including Game Pass subscribers.
