If you were a fan of sandbox games in the 90s and 2000s, then you"ve surely heard of Peter Molyneux. He"s had a hand in designing the Fable series, as well as numerous god games like Black & White, Dungeon Keeper, and Populous. While his reputation hasn"t been the best when it comes to later games and abandoned projects, Molyneux is returning to the spotlight later this year with his brand-new title, Masters of Albion.
While announced several years ago, the god game hasn’t had many updates surrounding its development. Now, out of nowhere, it has received an April release date on Steam, and Molyneux even says this will be his final game ever.
Being made by his studio 22cans, which has reportedly gathered team members from his old studios Bullfrog and Lionhead, Masters of Albion is said to be attempting to combine multiple genres while also being a god game.
"Masters of Albion is the culmination of my life’s work, a game that owes so much to titles like Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable," says Molyneux. "It’s a totally unique game that we hope will delight players, a game that brings God Games into the modern gaming landscape and puts the genre firmly back on the map."
As seen in the gameplay video above, players will be able to build out villages and affect how its citizens behave using a giant hand, as with most god games. At the same time, players are able to possess almost any individual to go exploring across the land while completing quests. At night, the gameplay turns more into a horde survival situation, where the undead and other creatures attack the village. Strategically placed defenses and heroes, as well as godly powers, can be used to defend against these threats.
Masters of Albion is releasing on Steam on April 22, 2026. There"s no word yet on if a console release is also planned.
