Bob and Brad Foot Massager (721 Pro) review: Shiatsu massage and heat for your feet

I was offered the chance to test out the Bob and Brad Foot Massager (721 Pro), and full disclosure, they let me keep it regardless of my findings. Anyway, I jumped at the chance due to my long hours sitting at my desk.

First up, what"s in the box:

  • Bob and Brad Foot Massager 721 Pro
  • 1x AC Adapter
  • 1x Remote Control
  • 1x User Manual
  • 1x Kickstand

In short, everything you need to get started.

According to the official Amazon listing, here are the key features:

  • Professional-Grade Full Foot Massage: Bob and Brad 721 Foot Massager delivers a deep, therapeutic massage with full-foot coverage, including the toes—a feature most foot massagers lack. With 3 adjustable intensity levels (low, medium, high), it meets your needs for pain relief, exercise recovery, or relaxation. Designed for professional-level comfort at home, it’s perfect for plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, or general foot fatigue.
  • Soothing Heat Function for Relaxation and Pain Relief: Enhance your massage experience with the built-in heating feature, offering three temperature settings (131°F, 140°F, 156°F). The gentle warmth helps to relax tight muscles, improve blood circulation, and provide relief from foot pain, swelling, and stiffness. Whether you"re looking to unwind after a long day or soothe sore feet from physical activities, this heated foot massager is your perfect companion for ultimate relaxation and recovery.
  • Adjustable Air Compression & Shiatsu Massage: Enjoy a customizable massage with air compression and Shiatsu techniques. The three adjustable air pressure modes target different areas of your feet, providing a comprehensive massage that mimics the hands of a professional therapist. This feature is especially beneficial for those seeking targeted relief for foot problems or standing fatigue.
  • User-Friendly Design with Remote Control: The Bob and Brad 721 Foot Massager is designed for ease of use, featuring a convenient remote control for effortless operation. The 15-minute automatic timer ensures safety by preventing overheating and overuse. Additionally, the removable foot sleeves make cleaning and maintenance a breeze, ensuring your massager stays hygienic and ready for use.
  • Relaxation for Everyday Comfort: This foot massager accommodates various foot sizes, up to Men’s US size 14. It offers a soothing experience to help ease daily tension and enhance relaxation, adding comfort to everyday routines.

With all that out of the way, here are my own findings.

First of all, let me just say this has a decent score of 4.4 on Amazon with very few returns due to it ceasing to function, and the only negative feedback I could find was something I came across myself which I will talk about a bit later.

Design

Overall, it looks quite premium with its dark grey color. The foot massager itself is quite large, but that probably has to do with the advertised "up to size 14 (US)" being able to comfortably fit in it, I can confirm this too with my size 13 US feet fitting in easily with room to spare.

Front view Rear view

The front of the foot massager has the controls, which are designed to be operated by hand rather than by toe. Around the rear you just have the "Bob AND Brad" branding.

Side view Bottom view

Around the side you can see it has quite a bit of height, I will get into this later. Finally there"s the bottom view with two holes to place the (optional) kickstand attachment which raises the rear of the foot massager a bit so that you can use it more comfortably from a lower seating position, like a couch.

The remote is rather small, thin and light, and takes a CR2025 coin battery. Forcefully pressing down on it did not reveal any "creaking" so I"d say it"s a pretty good build quality for the little remote.

Comparison

Let"s also talk about the size a bit, this has a rather large footprint, above you can see it next to my Medisana FM 888 Shiatsu Foot Massager which supports up to EU size 46 (US size 13). However, this is also thanks to the Bob and Brad unit allowing you to completely insert your feet into the device, almost like wearing it as shoes; with the Medinsa unit"s main difference being that you slot your feet into the unit and there"s no heel and ankle covering. This all accounts for the overall larger size than comparable foot massagers that you can buy.

Usage

I gave it a try in its default mode, of everything in the "low" mode, for clarity that"s:

  • Knead Intensity: Low, Medium, High
  • Air Pressure: Low, Medium, High, Max
  • Air Mode: (A) Mix Mode (B & C), (B) Rhythm Mode (Quick Steady Pumps), (C) Pressure Mode
  • Heat: Low (131°f / 55C), Medium (140°f / 60C), High (156°f / 68.89C)

Pressure Mode switches between fully inflating, and then releasing the pressure.

When I"ve used my Medisana, I always had it on the most intensive setting, but with low heat, so while the default setting on the 721 Pro still felt great, it didn"t feel intense enough. So I upped the intensity to full (including heat) and within five minutes I had to toggle the heat off.

One of the feedback on Amazon for this product is that it gets too hot, and I can confirm this. The whole issue is because it is not just heating from the bottom, it is also heating from the top, and that"s where it started hurting, with the tops of my feet rather than the bottom feeling uncomfortable. I discovered that I could alleviate this by decreasing the Air Pressure setting, meaning my feet were not being pressed against the inner topside of the unit.

Above you can see and hear it in action. As you can tell by the video my feet are completely inside the unit, this has the advantage of a far better massaging experience, but the downside is that you can"t quickly remove your feet while it is in operation like I can with the Medisana.

In addition it might be useful to know that it is possible to operate the unit by pressing on the buttons with your big toe, and then inserting your feet into the unit, as the air pressure does not kick in immediately, when it does though, it makes it near impossible to quickly exit the unit, so in this case the remote is quite handy to have on hand should you need to stop the unit and be able to answer the front door.

Conclusion

You may be wondering how this fits into the scope of a tech website? Well, let me tell you something: sometimes I sit for up to 15 hours working on Neowin, and although I take breaks in between, it takes a toll on my body. A good massager like the Bob and Brad Foot Massager can shed the strains of the day in just a couple of 15-minute bursts.

What I didn"t like

I don"t like the fact that my preferred settings are not remembered between uses, and I also didn"t like that it became too hot on the tops of my feet in the most intensive settings. Maybe someone with a smaller shoe size wouldn"t have that problem, if you have purchased it, please do leave a comment!

What I liked

In my opinion, this massager is better than the Medisana FM 888, and I should know... when my first one broke down I reordered the same exact one instead of chancing on a different brand, that"s how much I valued it. This brings us back around to the Amazon feedback on it breaking down, while I don"t know the use cases for it breaking, I can tell you I used my first Medisana FM 888 almost every day, sometimes more than once for four years before it stopped working. Things with moving parts, or a motor can die from overuse, as we sometimes say: C"est La Vie!

Would I recommend?

While it is more expensive than the Medisana FM 888 and some other comparable brands, I think overall it is worth it, it is definitely a more intense massage thanks to completely enveloping the feet. I also want to defer to the great feedback it has on Amazon, all in all it seems like a great buy with discounts applied.

For me, this gets a thumbs hands foot(?) up. However, it could be improved by making it so that it remembers your preferred intensity setting, which is something I fed back to Bob and Brad.

Where to buy

On the official website, this has an MSRP of $189.99, but it is selling at $30 off for just $159.99 right now on Amazon. Even nicer, we have been able to secure a 10% off coupon, which brings the price down even further to $143.99 before taxes in the U.S.
