Although Microsoft is seemingly considering scaling back on its AI efforts in Windows 11, that does not mean that it is backing down from integrating Copilot in its other software services and products. In fact, Redmond"s latest quarterly results indicated that the company has achieved 15 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats. Naturally, it wants to push this number even higher, which is why it is building new features to make the AI service even more powerful.
In recent days, Microsoft has made numerous updates to its Microsoft 365 Roadmap to detail some upcoming improvements on the way specifically for Microsoft 365 Copilot. Among these is the ability to reference SharePoint libraries, OneDrive folders, images, webpages, emails, Teams meetings and chats, and the content of another PowerPoint file when creating a presentation using Agent Mode powered by Copilot in PowerPoint. This is an extremely powerful capability as it allows users to develop content grounded within their organization"s infrastructure and reducing the overall time needed to create presentations. It will likely be adored by management personnel who have to deliver presentations regularly. This connectivity is coming to Windows, Mac, and the web between April 2026 and June 2026.
Speaking on Agent Mode in PowerPoint, customers will be able to leverage Copilot to create a "polished draft" of an Executive Summary slide. Additionally, creating entire presentations will also be possible through the Work IQ intelligence layer. Both these capabilities are slated for release in March.
Next, Copilot Search will allow web users to discover and disambiguate people through a carousel view, enabling you to find people relevant to your desired domain or skillsets. You can even search by department and look up all people present in a particular department. These features are landing this month.
Finally, March 2026 will see the release of a rather interesting utility for Government Community Cloud (GCC), GCC High, and U.S. Department of Defense customers. Copilot Chat in Outlook will be able to reason over their entire inbox, calendar, and integrated enterprise data. Microsoft has likely implemented strict guardrails for this particular feature, especially considering that Copilot will be interacting with sensitive data.
