Elon Musk says a kid-friendly 'Baby Grok' is on the way

xAI"s Grok chatbot has been making the headlines over the past few months for its controversial responses, from antisemitism to praising Hitler and insulting the Turkish president. However, the controversial chatbot might soon launch a kid-friendly version for children called Baby Grok.

Elon Musk announced the news on X, saying, "We"re going to make Baby Grok @xAI, an app dedicated to kid-friendly content." The xAI CEO didn"t elaborate on when the Baby Grok will be released and how it"s trained to be kid-friendly.

A kid-friendly Grok remains a vague concept, and the differences between it and the original Grok are still unclear. However, Baby Grok is more likely to be a scaled-down version of Grok with stricter safety measures, tailored specifically for educational purposes.

Elon Musk"s announcement of a kid-friendly Grok comes after Google released a version of its Gemini chatbot for children. Google"s take on a kid-friendly Gemini is focused on helping children with their homework, answering their questions, and making up stories. Also, parents can disable access via the Family Link app. This version is available for children under the age of 13.

Google also assured parents that Gemini for children does not contain ads and won"t collect data from its underage users. The app is exclusively focused on education and bolstering children"s creativity.

In addition to the antisemitism comments on Grok, xAI"s new "Companions" avatars are also raising concerns among parents. One of these AI avatars is a female character named Ani, who wears a suggestive dress and engages in flirtatious dialogue.

Users complain that AI avatars like Ani could expose children to explicit language. Additionally, some users reported that Ani"s flirtatious behavior occurred even when the Kid"s Mode on the Grok app was enabled.

It remains to be seen how Baby Grok addresses safety concerns while maintaining its focus on educational purposes.
