Flippy is your new robotic burger chef that's actually working in a restaurant

Every year, we are starting to see more advancements when it comes to artificial intelligence and its penetration into our everyday lives. Now, Miso Robotics and Cali Group have now introduced a robotic "chef" into a restaurant that will be able to assist workers and cook the perfect burger.

Flippy is the AI-driven robot that is being touted as a kitchen assistant. It will now be working at a CaliBurger restaurant in Pasadena, California. The robot is actually quite small and makes use of an array of cameras and sensors to understand what is on the cooktop and to evaluate when a particular piece that was put down should be removed.

An interface allows for co-workers to see Flippy"s "thought process" displaying various information about the cooktop and its contents. When a piece of meat is ready and cooked to perfection, Flippy will remove it and place it on an awaiting bun. From this point, a human chef will start to construct and customize the burger with different ingredients and sauces.

While it is currently operating in only in one location, CaliBurger plans to expand Flippy to 50 locations by the end of 2019.
