Anyone who decided to switch their machines over to AnduinOS due to the retirement of Windows 10, thanks to its resemblance to Windows, should take note that the version 1.3 branch is reaching end of life soon. The developer behind the project, who previously worked at Microsoft, stated that the 1.3 branch is based on Ubuntu 25.04 and will subsequently reach end of life on January 30, 2026.
To help you, the upgrade path from version 1.3.9 to 1.4.2 has been opened. To make the jump, just open up the terminal and run the following command: do_anduinos_upgrade. The upgrade is predicted to take one to two hours based on your network and hardware speed.
The command automates version validation, repository migration (from Ubuntu 25.04 to Ubuntu 25.10), package updates, ISO acquisition via BitTorrent, and critical system file replacement. Once the upgrade has completed, you will need to reboot before being launched into AnduinOS 1.4.2.
Before you perform the upgrade, you should make a full backup of all critical data and configurations. This will prevent data loss if anything goes wrong with the upgrade. It is a smaller Linux distribution after all, so the potential for failure is higher. In addition to backing up, it is also recommended that you stop all business-critical applications before starting.
It is also important to be aware of the fact that any manual changes you have made to initramfs-tools, custom kernels, or dracut configurations could be overwritten or disrupted when you do this upgrade.
If things do not go right during this update, there are a few things to try. If the system remains on 1.3.9, retry the command. If you do manage to upgrade, but the system is unstable, then you should run: do-anduinos-autorepair. If you come across any issues, you are asked by the developer to report them in the AnduinOS community forum.
