At GitHub Universe 2025, GitHub today announced Agent HQ. Agent HQ makes GitHub the unified platform for any coding agents to plug into, improving the developer experience. All leading AI labs, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Cognition, and xAI, will be making their coding agents available within GitHub.
Thanks to Microsoft"s close partnership with OpenAI, all GitHub Copilot Pro+ subscribers can access the OpenAI Codex agent in VS Code Insiders starting today. Later this year, developers can also assign issues to Codex directly in GitHub. More agents will be made available as part of paid GitHub Copilot subscriptions in the coming months.

GitHub is introducing a new unified place called Mission Control to manage Copilot coding-agent tasks on github.com. In a single centralized view, developers can check session logs, files changed, and more. The new Mission Control will be available across GitHub, VS Code, mobile, and the CLI.
Planning is critical to performing any coding task. In order to do better planning during coding sessions, GitHub is introducing the new Plan Mode in Copilot. Plan Mode will basically allow developers to build a step-by-step approach for their desired task, and it can also ask further questions along the way. Once planning is completed, developers can approve the plan, allowing Copilot to start implementing.
GitHub today announced the availability of the new GitHub MCP Registry directly in VS Code. VS Code already has full support for the MCP specification. This new MCP Registry will allow developers to easily discover, install, and enable MCP servers in VS Code.
The new GitHub Code Quality public preview will allow organizations to improve code maintainability, reliability, and test coverage across every repository. Finally, since code review is now part of Copilot"s coding-agent workflow, Copilot will perform the first-line review and address the review comments before you see the generated code.
