Google makes it easier to search movies and shows on streaming services in India

Picking the right movie or TV show to watch across a plethora of OTT streaming services is often tricky. Google Search will now allow users to find TV shows and movies across video streaming providers in India, including Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, Voot, Google Play Movies & TV, and YouTube.

Google had launched the feature in the US in September last year, and starting today and over the coming weeks, the company will be rolling out the new experience in Google Search in India.

When users will search for things like “good shows to watch” or “what to watch,” they will see an organized set of suggestions from the streaming providers. Users will be allowed to choose the OTT subscriptions they have using the ‘Edit Providers’ option so that they"re not recommended movies and shows on services that they don’t subscribe to.

In addition to finding recommendations, there’s also a ‘Watchlist’ feature that will allow users to save movies and shows for later. Once the user has searched “what to watch,” all they need to do is tap ‘Watchlist’ in the preview window for any show or film to add it to the viewing list.

According to the press release, this is the first version of this experience and more categories and further updates will be added in the coming months. The experience will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and English right away, with additional languages and streaming providers to follow.
