Hollow Knight fans may finally be able to rest easy, as Team Cherry finally has some news to share about the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Silksong. After years of teasers and small gameplay snippets, the development team has now broken the silence by saying that a "special announcement" is happening quite soon.
The Hollow Knight: Silksong - Special Announcement premiere is slated to go live in two days on Thursday, August 21, at 7:30 AM PT / 10:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM UK. It will be broadcast via YouTube. While no more information has been revealed about this event yet, many are already preparing for a release date announcement for the hugely anticipated Metroidvania experience.
Interestingly, the timing coincides with Gamescom week, where the title will also be playable at the Nintendo and Xbox booths. Even Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley himself teased at the game returning to the spotlight soon in social media. There is a good chance that Hollow Knight: Silksong will appear during the event later today with a small trailer, pointing towards Team Cherry"s own event later in the week.
For those unfamiliar with the project, Silksong was first announced back in 2019 as a sequel to the 2017-released indie Metroidvania Hollow Knight. While it had first spawned at the studio as a new piece of downloadable content for the original, it had evolved into a full-blown sequel project. Despite gaining a few trailers, a playable demo in 2019, and even being confirmed for Xbox Game Pass by Microsoft, a release date has never materialized.
The title was also used as a headliner when Microsoft announced its new Xbox-branded handheld gaming PCs, the Xbox Ally and Ally X. It also revealed that Silksong would be releasing before the 2025 holiday season.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated to launch on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and the Switch 2. It will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release on all supported platforms.
