Instagram, the world"s 2nd most popular social networking app, is coming to big screens at home. Meta today announced that Instagram for TV will allow users to enjoy their favorite Reels content on a larger screen, along with friends and family from their couch.
Like the Instagram mobile and desktop experience, with Instagram for TV, users can watch Reels, explore different channels, and see comments and reactions on-screen. They can even enjoy a continuous stream of Reels from Instagram accounts they follow.
Users can sign in with their existing Instagram account or create a new account just for TV so that Reels watched by other family members will not spoil their Instagram account"s recommendation algorithm. For added convenience, Meta will allow users to add up to five accounts so everyone in the family can watch their own Reels content.
Right now, the Instagram for TV app is available in the U.S. on select Amazon Fire TV devices, including the following:
- Fire TV Stick HD
- Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st and 2nd Gen)
- Fire TV 2-Series
- Fire TV 4-Series
- Fire TV Omni QLED Series
Aidan Marcuss, Vice President of Fire TV, said the following regarding the Instagram for TV launch:
“Our mission is to get you to the world’s best content fast, and we’re thrilled to welcome Instagram to Fire TV. We’re committed to keep pushing the boundaries of entertainment on customers" biggest screens—the Instagram team has built an awesome experience, and we’re excited to be the first place to offer it. We can’t wait to see what customers think.”
Users with any of the above devices can download this new Instagram for TV app from the Amazon Appstore. As the rollout begins with Fire TV, it will be interesting to see how quickly the app expands to other major TV platforms like Roku, WebOS and Google TV.
