Metro 2039 announced by 4A Games, full reveal this week at Xbox show

The Metro series of hugely well-received post-apocalyptic action games first spawned in 2010 with Metro 2033. Since then, Last Light (2013) and Redux (2019) have landed from developer 4A Games, all inspired by the original books of Dmitry Glukhovsky. Following a seven-year wait, the developer is finally ready to take the wrappings off its next project, which has now been confirmed to be a new sequel.

Dubbed Metro 2039, the game will take players back into the post-apocalyptic world to tell another story involving survivors dwelling in the Moscow subway tunnels. The confirmation arrives following multiple rumors and leaks surrounding the project.

Today, 4A Games confirmed the game"s existence while also announcing a full-blown showcase to reveal it to the world. Interestingly, this will be a partner showcase that"s happening alongside Xbox.

"This Thursday, April 16, we’ll be debuting Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 with 4A Games & Deep Silver – a digital-only broadcast offering a world-premiere look at the next title in the beloved post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series," said the official announcement on Xbox Wire today.

The Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 presentation will kick off on April 16 at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK. It will be streamed on the Xbox YouTube channel.

Like with most Xbox broadcasts, subtitle support for dozens of languages will be available on the stream. At the same time, streams with Audio Descriptions (AD) and American Sign Language (ASL) will be available as well.

Judging by the game"s name, Metro 2039 will take place after the events of Metro Exodus, which had players following long-time protagonist Artyom"s journey out of the Moscow Metro sometime in 2035. The title sported multiple endings depending on player choices, so it will be interesting to see which one will get canonized in the sequel. There is a chance of this entry introducing a whole new protagonist too.
