Microsoft Edge stable on Linux is now official

A few days ago, we learned that Microsoft has finally released a stable build of its Edge browser for Linux after a year in preview. At that time, we expressed surprise on the fact that the company has not made an official announcement upon reaching this milestone. It now appears that the release of the stable builds was premature because at its Ignite 2021 conference today, Microsoft has formally confirmed Edge stable for Linux.

Edge stable for Linux distros can now be downloaded from Microsoft"s download page for stable releases. To celebrate the release, Microsoft has also included a limited-time, Linux-related Easter egg in its Surf game on the Edge 97 Dev channel build that can be accessed through the classic Konami cheat code.

That"s not all the company has in store when it comes to Edge though. Given the impending retirement of Internet Explorer next year, Microsoft is making it easier to transition to IE Mode in Microsoft Edge. Organizations can now use cloud locations to store site lists via Cloud Site List Management instead of configuring on-premises infrastructure. These can easily be created and transferred using Microsoft 365 Admin Center and will enable IT admins to leverage group policy to configure different site lists for different sets of devices. That said, this capability is currently in preview and you can find out more about it here.
