Another Microsoft platform exclusive is hopping over to Sony"s camp. Today during the State of Play presentation, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 made a surprise showing from the Xbox camp, offering the hit aircraft sim to PlayStation 5 players for the first time later this year. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 arrived as a sequel to the hugely well-received 2020 edition late last year, offering fans a more advanced sim experience set on a "digital twin" of Earth alongside a career mode with a huge number of actual mission types.
The PlayStation 5 version comes with all the content that"s available on the PC and Xbox versions, including all the upgraded regions, cities, airports, and other aspects that have landed since release as free updates. Built on developer Asobo Studio"s in-house engine, the 2024 installment touts improved visuals that render realistic terrain, dynamic weather systems, and even animals. There"s a new on-foot feature, too, which lets players get out of their aircraft after landing and explore the game"s world freely.
The DualSense controller is being utilized to offer a more immersive experience as well.
"Adaptive triggers respond to different speeds and surface types on the ground and provide sloped resistance in the air," said Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann. "Communications from air traffic control (ATC) play through the controller speaker, simulating the feel of a real cockpit. Gyro controls, lightbar support, and a customizable touchpad further enhance the immersion during flight."
Surprisingly, support for the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset and Sense controllers has also been confirmed. This feature won"t be available at launch though, with a 2026 update planned.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launches for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro on December 8, 2025. Those who pre-order will receive the Northrop T38-A Talon as a bonus aircraft. Purchasing the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator Editions means the game will unlock on December 3 instead.
