Microsoft releases firmware updates for Surface Pro with Spectre and Meltdown fixes

Microsoft is releasing a series of firmware updates for its newest Surface Pro PCs. Dated March 15, they contain additional fixes for the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities that were discovered earlier this year.

There are updates for both the regular Surface Pro, and the new one with LTE Advanced. Here"s what you"ll see on the Wi-Fi only Surface Pro (model 1796):

Surface System Aggregator Firmware – Firmware

  • 233.2110.770.0 resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 180002.
Surface – Firmware – 233.2111.256.0

Surface System Aggregator Firmware – Firmware

  • 233.2111.256.0 improves battery reliability.


For those with a Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (model 1807), you"ll see the following:

  • 234.2110.770.0 resolves potential security vulnerabilities, including Microsoft security advisory 180002.

  • 234.2110.1.0 improves battery reliability.


According to Microsoft"s Value Indicator chart, these updates improve security, reliability, and battery life. There is no effect on connectivity, compatibility, or performance.
