Microsoft Teams to add a faster way to build automations using slash commands

Microsoft is now working on a feature for Teams that lets you quickly create workflows directly from chats and channels. To make a new workflow, you use the /createworkflow slash command. The Redmond giant is targeting a late April Targeted Release (Worldwide) and a complete General Availability rollout by mid-May.

In its announcement on the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, the company says that workflows are automated processes in Teams that handle repetitive tasks for users, such as sending notifications, creating tasks, or starting approvals when something happens in Teams.

When this change arrives, you’ll be able to type /createworkflow while composing a message to begin creating an automation, instead of navigating through menus. This speeds up workflow creation and makes it easier for non-power users to discover workflows and boost their productivity

This change will be coming to Teams for Windows desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web. It is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 558544 and Microsoft 365 Admin Center Message ID MC1254553.

This new feature is enabled by default, so admins do not need to switch on any policies for it to become available. However, if the Workflows app is blocked, users will see the Create Workflow slash command, but won’t be able to use it.

Let us know in the comments if you use workflows in Teams and what you think about this change. Do you think this is a positive change, or do you see it as Microsoft pushing features unnecessarily?
