Minecraft Xbox 360 SD TV owners now eligible for refunds

Minecraft for the Xbox 360 has been a huge hit for Microsoft. The port of the successful PC sandbox game has already sold over 1 million copies. However, some buyers of the 1600 Microsoft Points game (about $20) complained that they were unaware that the port required an high definition TV to play the game"s split-screen multiplayer mode. Microsoft made no indication that this was a requirement before people purchased the game.

At first, it seemed like Microsoft was not going to allow any refunds for this issue. Now Joystiq reports that the company has had a change of heart while also now informing future Minecraft Xbox 360 buyers of the HDTV split-screen requirement before they buy the game. In a statement, Microsoft said:

We updated our pre-sale notification to inform customers that an HD screen is required for the split-screen multiplayer feature on Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. If a player does not have an HD screen and purchased this game prior to the notification update, they are eligible for a full refund through customer support.

While this will only affect a small fraction of the game"s buyers, it"s good to know that Microsoft has decided to give its Xbox 360 customers a break in this particular case.
