The end of 2025 marked the launch of Minecraft's Mounts of Mayhem update, and already, Mojang is back with a teaser for what it has planned for the next major content update, version 26.10. It seems one of the main features of this drop will be revamping how the animals, or mobs, of Minecraft look when they are still babies.
Ever since Minecraft received baby animals for players to take care of until they grow into adulthood, their models have simply been miniaturized bodies with oversized heads. Soon, that will be changing. Mojang is making custom models and textures to make unique baby mobs for each animal in the game.
"Brace yourself, fellow mob hoarders connoisseurs, for the first features from our cutest drop yet are here! Leading the way into testing with a whole new look are eight new versions of baby farm mobs," says Mojang. "They might be tiny, but these wolf pups, kittens, piglets, calves, baby chickens, baby ocelots, lambs, and baby rabbits are even chunkier, floofier, and more charming than ever before."
Aside from the visual upgrade, Mojang has also updated the sound effects of these baby mobs. Previously, these were simply high-pitched versions of the adult sound effects, but now, the studio has recorded new lines from real-life baby animals to replace them.
As players will be focusing on collecting all sorts of animals with the new update, Mojang is making Name Tags a craftable item for the first time. This will require paper and any metal nugget. These can be used to give any animal a unique name for easily finding them.
Mojang has not attached a definite release date to this baby mob upgrading content update just yet, but it is aiming for a spring release time frame. As usual, the announcement has been accompanied by updates to the preview testing versions of Minecraft Bedrock and Java Edition, letting snapshot and preview players check out the latest additions right now.
